And here we go...
If we go back two months, to mid-January, I felt like my fitness was dead on. I had just run my first 50K and was getting ready to taper for the Austin Marathoni. I was feeling great, and had hopes of transitioning to a fast early tri-season. So I signed up for the Kemah Triathlon and the Lonestar 70.3 Ironman. Sure, enough not even a week later I pull my hamstring. So instead of tapering for the marathon I am “tapering” to recover from my injury. 2 weeks go by before I’m able to run on it again, but during this time I’m swimming, lifting, and stretching to keep up my fitness. Then as I’m starting to be able to run again, I come down with a cold. To make it worse, I went on a business trip which was fun, but stressful. I’m sure it prolonged the sickness since it lasted over a week. Then, after getting back from the trip I was exhausted and behind in school. Luckily it was one week, and then I had spring break to recover and catch up. During the break I had one week of decent training, and attempted to carry it over to the next week. Well, wouldn’t you know it, I got sick again, thanks Sarah ;) So just when I was starting to feel good, the last weekend of what I’ll call cramming training, turned into a recovery weekend. So now, It’s the week of the Kemah Triathlon and a little over a week away from the Lonestar 70.3 Ironman and I only have one long ride of 70 miles, a long run of only 13 miles, a tight hamstring, and still recovering from a second bout of the common cold. And to top it off, I got some blisters on the back of my foot from some new shoes, which were so bad that I had to take a day off from running. Arg, I cant even taper well. So needless to say it’s been a bit of a disappointing early season. If I had known this was coming I would not have signed up for the 70.3, but since I did, I just plan on making the most of the situation, by going out and pushing myself and making sure to have fun. Hopefully my hamstring is fine and my cold doesn’t relapse again. Anything other than that, will just be icing on the cake. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see what the future holds. Afterwards I plan on taking two weeks completely off from training, well mostly. Can’t wait to bust out the mountain bike and have fun.

Normal people would take these as signs from God to forget training, cook up a bowl of Ramen and bloat happily in the couch. Just sayin'...
