It’s finally here! Oh, I have been looking forward to this day for sooo long. It seems like the last month has just been a whirlwind of tests, meetings, and conferences, and now I have a whole week to do absolutely nothing except sleep, eat, train, and hang out with Sarah. If you back up two weeks, you’ll see why I am so glad to have a week off. As a part of ASDA I got to go to their annual session which happened to be in Disneyland this year. Exciting, but at the same time I was missing two tests and a practical. There were 6 of us going from our school , 2 first years, 3 second years, and 1 third year. Our schedule was to leave Wednesday and get back Sunday. So we knew it was going to be a long week. While I tried to get ahead before leaving, my efforts were futile. I left knowing that the next week I would really have to play catch up. To top it off, just as we were leaving I felt as if I may be coming down with a cold. Well sure enough I got sick, and the time change and traveling didn’t help.
Overall the trip was awesome, except for missing exams and being sick. The first day we got to meet Mickey Mouse and take pictures with him. I tried to have a beer in my hand when I took the picture but his PR man managed to jump in front of the camera before the picture and take my beer. Bummer. The next day we had our keynote speaker from Disneyland come speak to us. The main topic was about the history of Disney, but he also talked about Disney’s vision and what they do to be the best. It was really good and was told in a way that we could take back and use in our practice. I’ll spare you most of it but basically he said to be the best you want to set your sights high and to have everyone take ownership in the company. He went into much more detail but those were the two main points. The rest of the conference we spent electing a new president and passing new bills following parliamentary procedure, which was interesting for about a whole 5 minutes. Friday night we all got to go to Disneyland, but I was so sick/tired that I didn’t even make it for the fireworks. I also hate to say it but I’m just not a big Disney fan. I mean I like the movies and Mickey Mouse, but I don’t really like the theme park. Besides Disneyland, we were “wined and dined” at night by different dental reps that would pay for our entire dinner and alcohol, which was awesome. There was also a vendor fair, which is like a sports expo except with just dental companies, and finally Saturday, was the presidents dance. The theme for this year was 80’s. So as you can imagine there were lots of neon colors, ripped jeans, and workout outfits. It was in the Disneyland grand ballroom. The dance floor alone was bigger than 2 of my apartments put together, and even though there were over 400 students in the room, it was still only half full.
We got back to Houston on Sunday around 3pm. Exhausted and tired I had a rough week ahead of me. It felt like finals. I had 3 exams, 2 practicals, and 1 quiz. It can’t get much worse than that. On top of that I was exhausted from the trip and sick. Somehow, I made it through, although I’m not sure how I did on the exams, and I am now on spring break mode, and I am soooo excited to spend the week with Sarah and training and relaxing!!
