Cyclops Fluid 2 Trainer

After 3 years my faithful training partner, a Blackburn magnetic trainer, finally gave out on me. I knew that it had been getting progressively louder in the past few months, but when you still hear the trainer w/headphones and music blaring it’s time to get a new one. It literally sounded like a freight train going through my living room. So, I decided it was time to put the old trainer to rest and get a new one. While I like the magnetic trainer, I had my sights on a fluid trainer. After looking at the Kenetic Fluid trainer and Cyclops Fluid trainer, I chose the Cyclops primarily b/c it was much cheaper, yet still very high quality.

After a quick assembly process I couldn’t wait to hop on my bike and take it for a test spin. Right away I noticed that the resistance on a fluid trainer was much higher than on the magnetic. The biggest difference between the two is that whenever you start pedaling faster on a fluid trainer, it automatically gets harder. On that first ride I was barely able to spin in my easiest gear. Well, turns out I had put the tire resistance way too hard. The next ride I had it dialed in better and was able to try a range of speeds. One of the coolest things about the trainer is that it can actually stimulate hill climbing, which is something that the magnetic trainer could never do, and of course, it is much more quiet than the magnetic. Overall, I really like the trainer and am looking forward to really putting in some good hrs on the trainer (I’m probably one of the only cyclists that enjoys riding on a trainer, ha)
