End of Spring Semester 2011
It’s been a long spring semester, but it’s finally over! I just took my last final (8 in total plus 4 practicals) and now I plan on celebrating by going for a swim, then a mountain bike ride at memorial park, and top it off with an easy trail run. Well, at least I got through the first 2. Then I headed over to St. Arnolds Brewery for the monthly Houston Racing Triathlon Club Meeting, where there was free beer and pizza. Pretty hard to beat that! There is a reason that I don’t call this the end of my second year of dental school. This summer is going to be a full schedule, with classes and clinic all of June, and then I’ve got to study my a** off in July for the first part of the Dental Boards. This 9 hr test encompasses all of the “basic” science course we took the first two years of school. My exam date is July 20th. That gives almost exactly 2 weeks once I am out of school to study for the exam. My plan is to wake up every morning at 6, swim from 6:30-7:30, come home and brew some coffee for a morning study session from 8-12. Have a lunch and a short nap, then hit the books again from 2-6:30. Then do an evening ride or run, followed by dinner and another hour or so of review questions over the material that I studied that day. After the exam, I will officially consider myself half-way through with dental school and will head up to the lake to do a week training camp to get ready for a busy fall race season. For now, all I can say is thank God finals are over and lets move on.
