Going Pro

I am excited to announce that I am officially a pro triathlete! I qualified with my third place overall finish at the Kemah triathlon. At first I didn't even realize that I had qualified until someone told me. Even then I had to check, and double check the qualification standards and sure enough I had qualified. I wish I could say that turning pro would just instantly make me a faster athlete, but I know that I am going to work even harder, and be even more dedicated than before if I want to be competitive.

My decision to go pro was a mixture of reasons. The first was for more competition. While I know that there are faster age group athletes out there, I feel like right now I do not have the time/funds to travel to the regional/national age group championships to compete, but as a pro I can compete with some of the best athletes in the world all within driving distance. The second reason is I decided to get my pro card is definitely to get faster. The prospect to be able to see the people I am racing against in real time, hopefully be able to hop on with the faster swim pack, and then have that higher level of competition pushing me out on the race course are all reasons I believe that racing with the pros could help me get faster. The final reason was best stated by a friend of mine who said that "20 years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do." So with that, I am going pro and not looking back.
