First week of school: I cant tell you what a great feeling it was starting my 3rd year in dental school. It felt like I had finally climbed over the hump and was now on the downhill side. This was all very short lived. That afternoon, we had a class meeting with all of our clinic professors that quickly burst my bubble and made me realize that this was not going to be an easy year. The school had a disappointing Western Regional Boards Exam, with only 75% of the seniors passing, and a ton of the previous 3rd years not finishing their requirements to be seniors. In fact, they had to hold back 5 students (almost unheard of) b/c they were so far behind in their clinical experiences. So, this year the professors completely revamped all the requirements, adding more requirements and less leeway if you do not finish, in order to pass the year. So, they definitely put the fear factor into me and I'm going to have to work my but off to get it all done by the deadline May 12.
First week of training: Not only was it my first week of school, but it was also my first week of training w/Muddy, and he wasted no time trying to crush me. With the Houston Tri and Longhorn 70.3 he's started prepping me for racing with the big boys out there. I'm looking forward to see what we can do with the rest of my season and ready for next year.
Clear Lake International Tri: 1st Overall Male! After my first week of training/school I was beat and on the edge of not racing this race, but a last minute conversation w/Muddy I decided to just go out and see what I had. My legs defininitely felt the effects of the training and I just felt flat on the bike and the run. It didn't help that both the bike and run were long, windy, and HOT. My favorite part of the race was getting to meet and compete w/the legondary Dave Scott! I am excited to now say that I have beat Dave Scott in a race, but to be fair, this guy was winning ironmans when I was still in diapers. He was real nice and laid back. I wish I would had more time to talk to him and learn from his expierences. It was also fun seeing everyone out there from OUL and HTRC (thanks for the ice cold water from the supersoakers, I looked forward to it each lap).
